Happy Sunday everyone,
I hope you all had a great weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather! I just wanted to post to remind everyone that there is no school tomorrow (November 7th). It is teacher workshops so the students get one more day to sleep in and enjoy the great weather! Also, please be on the lookout for an email from skyward to sign up for conferences. Conferences will be Nov. 28 and Dec. 1st at varying times so please sign up right away to get the spot you want. The email should be "blasted" out to all parents tomorrow (Monday, Nov. 7). If you do not receive it, please contact the office. Like always, if you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to email or call! Thank you, Ms. Holien

Happy Sunday everyone!
I hope you all had a fun and relaxing weekend! I wanted to write a quick post letting you all know what is happening this week in the third grade. As we all know, tomorrow is Halloween! We talked about costumes on Friday so all the kiddos should know but students are NOT allowed to wear costumes to school on Monday. I told them if they would like to they could wear orange and black! It is a school-wide decision so if you have children in other grades, it will be the same. But when they get home, costume away!! I can't wait to hear what everyone is going to be! Also this week is our food drive! I meant to send home a paper copy of each days collection but Friday was crazy with all the Lemonade War celebrations and Friday Fun Night! I will post the collection items on here and also send home a sheet tomorrow (Monday)! Monday - Macaroni Monday - Pasta, Pasta Sauce & Boxed Goods Tuesday - Tuna Tuesday - Any Protein, Canned Beans or Meat Wednesday - Wheaties Wednesday - Breakfast foods - Cereal, Pancake Mix, Syrup, Peanut Butter, Oatmeal Thursday - Tidy Up Thursday - Personal care products, paper products and cleaning products Friday - Fruity Friday - Canned Fruits & Veggies Please let me know if you have any questions about the drive or Halloween! Happy fall all!
Sorry for the delay in writing, I hope your children were filling you in! There are a couple things I wanted to make you aware of, if you are not already.
Let me know if you have any questions! - Ms. Holien October start the beginning of fall!! Yay, one of the best seasons ever! It also marks the start of our reading calendars. Here in 3rd grade, we don't like to give much homework but we do expect the students to be reading at least 20 minutes a night along with practicing addition and subtraction facts. I have attached a practice sheet to a tab on the webpage and you can also find many online. I will be sending a packet home too (when it comes back from being copied and stapled). This past Friday, I sent home our first reading calendar. I hope it made it to you and I hope the directions made sense to everyone. I accidentally forgot to delete the "reading folder" portion, I want it to stay at home and only be returned at the end of the month. The calendar should be filled out every night, I have provided a mock calendar on the back just incase you have any questions. But like always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! I hope you'll had a great weekend! :) **Our One School One Book, "The Lemonade War" would be perfect for the reading calendar!!!**
Hey everyone!
I hope you all had a great day and enjoying the weather! It has been a crazy week here in the 3rd grade with NWEA testing, Rock Jogger and a new fundraising going home today, that I forgot to mention that the One School One Book kick off is tonight from 5:30-7:30! I wish I could be there but we have an away game in Zimmerman but I hope many of you can make it! There will be treats and I believe some games to play! Also, reminder that Rock Jogger is tomorrow morning. Please see details in yesterday's blog post if you have any questions! Have a great night! Today went very well! There has been some questions about Rock Jogger this Friday and I just wanted to send it out so everyone knows!
Rock Jogger: Who: 3rd graders What: Rock Jogger #1 When: Friday 9/29 8:30-9:45 Where: On the field between the track and the baseball field *Need to wear tennis shoes and maybe bring an extra pair to change into if they get really wet! *Parents CAN come to the morning event (meet us on the field) but not at the award ceremony at the end of the day. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns :) Hi all,
This week is going to be a fun week at the Intermediate School! IT'S DRESS UP WEEK!!!! You should have received an email/skyward notification from our principal Dr. Glomski and a blue sheet that I sent home with the kiddos on Friday with what the students can wear on that particular day. I will post the list again at the bottom of this blog so you can have it again! Other than dressing up this week, there is another big event happening. On Tuesday and Thursday of this week, we will be taking the NWEA test in both reading and math. In class, we have talked a lot about how important it is to show how much they know and to be taking it seriously. If you could have a talk with your child too to show them that we are all on the same page and we want them to be successful. I hope you are all liking the Seesaw app and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! Let's have an awesome week! :) The Intermediate School is going to have a great week! Students are invited to participate in our dress up days throughout the week. Monday – Beach Day Tuesday -Superhero Day Wednesday – PJ Day Thursday – Favorite Team Day Friday – Spirit Day *We ask that students refrain from face paint, masks and hair dye. Hey everyone!
Finally home from volleyball, wow it's been a busy Tuesday! So parents, I told the kiddos that there will be a secret on the class webpage that they can add to their homework. So... if you are reading this, I want you to draw a small smiley face on the back on your homework. :) Today was a great day in the 3rd grade! We had our first fire drill which went great. We all got a little scared when the alarm went off..... we were so focused on math. Speaking of math- we have our first homework assignment tonight! Please check with your child and make sure that gets returned to school tomorrow! I hope you all have a great night and see you tomorrow! We have officially made it to our second week of school! All things are going well in the 3rd grade. We are doing an awesome job of learning the routine and knowing the way of the intermediate school. In math, we have continued to do review especially with time. Tomorrow, Tuesday, homework will be coming home that is due on Wednesday. Please keep an eye out for that. In reading, we are really working on independent reading and working with AR. The students have had a chance to take an AR test last Friday as a practice and now can take tests when they are done reading a book. At home, please keep reading with them. It is amazing what reading with your child can do! They learn fluency, accuracy, and develop a love of reading! Like always, please email me with any questions or concerns.
Hi all,
I am so sorry I haven't posted in a couple days. Volleyball has been crazy with a lot of away games but I have a quick minute during prep so I'll fill you in. Since I posted last, we have been doing a lot here in the third grade! In math, we are reviewing math topics that we have learned in second and first grade. All is going well but next week I might start sending home some homework to practice these skills. There are a couple topics that are still a bit tricky. Please help your son/daughter with these. If you have questions please either email me or write a little note at the top of their homework. We have also been having fun in reading. We just read another funny story where the principal wanted to have school everyday of the week and even during the summer. Ask your son/daughter why he did that! They should be able to retell you the entire story. We have also been learning about being a community and what that looks like. We talk about how the rules and expectations in the classroom are kind of like the rules and expectations in the real world. Overall, this week has been going great! Like always, please let me know if you have any questions or if your child comes home with a concern. Also, if you would like to comment on the blogs with questions or other comments that other parents might want to see too that is awesome! Go for it!! The first Monday of the year was great! There were a few tired eyes this morning but that is to be expected. Today we started both our math and reading curriculums. In math, we looked at finding the difference between numbers and how to use a number grid to help us solve the problems. In reading, we learned about the focus wall for Lesson 1 and started looking at the different elements (vocabulary, phonics, and comprehension). We also read a story where the principal made a deal with his students! Ask your son/daughter what the deal was tonight, it was pretty funny! We also started sharing our jerseys we made. It is really fun seeing all the creativity and each personality! There is no homework tonight unless you didn't finish the jersey!
Friday was a lot of fun! We are really starting to get into the swing of things. We wrote our first poem in our poetry journal. It was one about closing up summer and opening up the school year. It was funny because some of the students were complaining about how we need to keep summer open! haha :) We also learned how to line up for a fire drill and practiced our line order/where to go. We took a math timed test on Friday too. It was an addition test with 50 problems timed for 3 minutes. The students will know their scored Monday but will not be bringing home the test. I will be sending home practice sheets to be practiced at home. This will not be homework unless I am not seeing much change in scores. Please let me know if you have any questions or need other resources to improve scores. Finally on Friday we learned about "All about me." All about me is a chance for the students to share about themselves. Each student will have a week that is theirs to bring in pictures and other things they like to share with the class. I presented as a model for the students. I talked about my travels and they had the opportunity to try some Nicaraguan hard candy that I bought for them on my recent trip. I think I might need to head back there soon because they were a big hit! I hope you all are having a great weekend, week #2 start tomorrow!
Well the first day of school is under our belts. I hope your child told you all about it last night. We learned about how to navigate the lunch line and what we can play with outside at free play. We also learned about each other in the classroom and what we had in common with one another. It was really fun to see the kiddos make some connections with one another. We also did a fun writing activity about a book we read. The students got to come up with a different/funny way they would want to get to school if they could choose. It was overall a great first day!
