Hi my name is Heather Holien! I am very excited to be teaching 3rd grade in Becker this year. This will be my second year teaching, last year I taught 2nd grade in the St. Cloud District. I am passionate about teaching, especially the intermediate grades!
Now, a little about my self. I was born and raised in St. Cloud, Mn but I was born to travel (more about that in a little bit!) I went to Cathedral High School and then onto Winona State University. I graduated from WSU in 2014 with three majors (I know, I am crazy!) I have degrees in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, and Spanish. Now onto the best part, TRAVELING! I have been to a total of 11 different countries and counting. Here are a few of my favorite! While in high school I worked in an orphanage in Moshi, Tanzania for about two and a half weeks, an absolutely incredible and eye opening experience. In college, I studied abroad in Granada, Spain. I lived with a host family for three months and studied A LOT! I went over expecting to get my minor but instead came home with a major. During my time in Spain, I also had the opportunity to travel around Morocco and Portugal. These are two very different countries and both had amazing people and culture! Finally, this past August my sister and I traveled to Nicaragua to do medical mission work in some of the most rural parts of the country. The teacher had to become the student! I learned many medical terms and procedure. I give a lot of credit to all the nurses out there, you are doing great work! I have learned so much through my travels and it has really helped me as a teacher and I can't wait to continue to learn more through my travel!
I am very excited to get to know each and every one of my students and their families! This year is going to be great! Go Bulldogs!
